New Year, New Style

Now, any of you who know me may be smiling at the thought of me trying to be more stylish. I am definitely of the drag myself out of bed and put on the same “uniform” of clothes every day, school of thought. (skinny jeans, socks, legwarmers, uggs, tunic top and cardigan if you’re interested, plus my patented 3 scarves which I am rarely without during the winter months) I’m not great with my hair or make up and often resort to a simple scruffy bun or ponytail and quick scrape of mascara. Or more often then not, no make up at all.

But it is definitely true to say that when I do make an effort I feel a lot better for it. The biggest problem I have is that I usually have an hour in the mornings to get me and 4 kids up and dressed, breakfasted and ready for school and work. Working from home means that its easy for me to be lazy about how I dress and I KNOW I could get up earlier and make more time for a proper routine but really, me and getting up earlier just don’t get on.

So I was interested to see my twitter friend Katy talk about a new 2014 Style challenge, which you can read all about here. I will definitely be signing up in the new year, a bit of outside influence will be very useful in encouraging me to make more of an effort!

Planning for Christmas

I can’t believe how quickly this year has disappeared. Its been my first full year on my own since I split up with my husband and its been harder than I ever thought but for all the right reasons. This time last year I was holding the kids hands through their first Christmas without mum and dad both together on Christmas day. Now we all seem to be in the groove of handing kids back and forth between homes. They see both of us a lot and although this year has seen tears from each of them over the new structure of our families I think that we’ve handled it well and we’re all relatively unscathed.

They’ve had a lot to deal with this year including meeting new partners on both sides and dealing with having extra children and people in their homes, but my kids make me proud each and every day and I’ve never been more sure that they are going to be OK.

We’re busy planning Christmas and the main focus for me is that they are both happy and surrounded by people who love them. That’s what this time of year is all about to me. That and reflecting back over the last 12 months and planning the next year. I’m looking for stability and simplicity in my life in 2014. Shouldn’t be too much to ask for, should it?
